Transport in this game consists of moving goods between factories, the border for trade, and shops for citizens to buy, and passengers from cities to factories, or tourists to and from abroad. Workers and Resources is an absolute gem and has been my favourite game to play this year for sure, but it's not really a transport tycoon either, even though there is a lot of depth to the transport, comparable to TF2. The main focus is on city building and resource management, so you won't spend much time on the transport aspect. The rail system is very simplistic, the only detailed transport is the ships, where you can set trade lines and make convoys of ships to carry goods from one island to the other. It is only the era of steam transport, and you the only transport method is rail, but the business options include features like auctions, investing, and stocks.Īnno 1800 isn't really a transport tycoon. I feel like it is an easier game to master than TF2, but shares many similarities, as in you also try to connect cities and factories. Railway Empire is more simplistic on transport and infrastructure, but heavier on the business side of things. If it is the vehicles you are after, this is your game. The game is also beautiful 3D with very detailed models and a lot of modability, with loads of vehicles from 1850 to the present day. It is heavy on managing your lines, but less so on the tycoon elements, there aren't many financial options other than a simple loan. You play as a transport company, transporting passengers and cargo between cities and factories, via truck, bus, train, ship or plane. Transport Fever 2 is as close you will get to a modern remake of TTD, and it is the game that I think fits the 'transport tycoon' criteria the most among these. I played all of them except for Cargo Company, so here goes:
